Notes
Two Bulls, one of the artist’s most imposing and important sculptures, was conceived in 1970. A very small edition of five bronzes was planned by Egon Guenther, Kumalo’s gallerist and mentor at the time. Guenther cast the first two from the edition in 1971 and 1972, while the Goodman Gallery completed the edition between 1972 and 1975. As the original plaster or mould for Two Bulls was damaged in or near 1984, the present lot, an unnumbered casting, would presumably have been made sometime between 1975 and 1984 by Renzo Vignali.
With thanks to Gavin Watkins and Charles Skinner for assistance with cataloguing this lot.
