Critics Ratings

AA Badenhorst Dassiekop Steen 2015
'As fine a wine as you could ever wish to taste, 2015 chenin eases onto the palate with poise & grace, balancing lovely fresh acidity with perfume, blossom & gently spiced apple & pear. Layers of tropical fruit follow on, leading to a seriously long finish. Only old/large oak.' - Platter's SA Wine Guide 2018, 5* (97/100)

'The 2015 Dassiekop Granietsteen Chenin Blanc has a seductive praline and yellow fruit-scented bouquet, subtle nectarine and peach skin notes developing in the glass. The palate is fresh and vibrant with an energetic opening, a crisp line of acidity, notes of yellow plum and orange pith towards the waxy-textured finish that has superb tension.' - Robert Parker, Wine Advocate, 92/100 (Apr 2017)

'This is a first release for this Chenin, sourced from what Adi Badenhorst calls “the best vineyard on the Paardeberg” for the variety. Saline, granitic and very complex, it’s a taut, mineral expression of the grape with stone fruit and pear skin flavours, understated oak and a very long finish. Drink: 2016-23.' - Tim Atkin MW, SA Special Report 2016, 95/100

AA Badenhorst White 2013
‘This has weight cut and drive, with ginger, peach, heather and lemon curd notes, accented by hints of walnut husk, verbena and citrus oil. Gains depth and drive through the finish, where the treble and bass marry nicely, finishing with a long dried chamomile echo. Distinctive. Chenin Blanc, Grenache Blanc, Roussanne, Viognier, Verdelho, Marsanne, Clairette, Palomino and Chardonnay. Drink now through 2021.’ - James Molesworth, Wine Spectator, 93/100 (Dec 2016)

‘This blend of Chenin Blanc with nine other varieties (the same number as Eben Sadie’s Palladius, coincidentally) has gone up a notch in quality in 2013. Savoury, concentrated and complex, it’s a wine with multiple nuances, combining citrus, stone and tropical fruit underpinned by minerality. Drink: 2015-20’ - Tim Atkin MW, SA Special Report 2015, 94/100

‘35% Chenin Blanc, 10% Grenache Blanc, 9% Roussanne, 9% Viognier, 8% Verdelho, 8% Marsanne, 7% White Grenache, 7% Clairette Blanche, 5% Palomino and 2% Chardonnay. A top note of potpourri before citrus and white peach plus spice and some earthiness. Quite lean yet deeply flavoured on the palate. Savoury throughout with some phenolic grip on the finish. Very striking.’ – Christian Eedes, Winemag.co.za, 93/100 (Nov 2015)
