About this Item
Château de Pibarnon is a leading wine estate in the Bandol appellation of southern France. It is highly rated by many critics and generally regarded as one of the better producers in all of Provence region which, aside from the ubiquitous rosés, is also known for its red wines based on the Mourvèdre grape.
This is Pibarnon’s top wine, and one of the great ‘mountain Bandols’. It’s a blend of 90% Mourvèdre and 10% Grenache drawn from the estate’s high-altitude terraces. The altitude, the influence of the sea and the limestone/clay soils all bring a freshness and purity that is rare among Mediterranean reds. This cuvée is based only on the fruit of the oldest vines and finest terraces of Château de Pibarnon, including Bel-Air, La Grande Paguette, La Falaise, Les Pointes Blanches, Le Col and Les Dolmens.

Critics Ratings
‘Like the Restanque de Pibarnon, the 2011 Bandol Rouge shows the sunnier nature of the vintage with its sexy, layered personality. More elegant, seamless and polished, with slightly finer tannin, it offers up beautiful notes of black raspberries, currants, licorice and spice in a supple, medium to full-bodied, balanced, seamless style that will keep nicely for another decade at least.’ – Jeb Dunnuck, Wine Advocate, 93/100 (Jun 2016)
'A polished, ripe, flattering style, particularly for Bandol, with flavors of plum, cassis and cherry preserves gliding along, carried by red licorice and singed cinnamon notes. Lingering whiffs of black tea and warm fruitcake emerge on the finish. Drink now through 2023.’ – James Molesworth, Wine Spectator, 92/100 (Oct 2015)
‘This is a firmly structured wine that balances tautness and minerality with ripe berry and plum flavors. There is remarkable power and potential in this solid wine.’ – Roger Voss, Wine Enthusiast, 93/100 (Mar 2014)
