Critics Ratings
‘The 2014 Haut-Bergey has a fine bouquet: blackberry, graphite and tobacco, a hint of singed leather in the background. The palate is medium-bodied with solid, quite firm tannin, very peppery but there is the fruit substance to support all that and the finish that is akin to a Saint Estèphe. It will require several years to soften but should be worth the wait.’ – Neal Martin, Vinous, 90+/100 (Feb 2018)
‘A solid, grippy-edged style, with a core of steeped plum and blackberry fruit laced with tar and roasted apple wood notes. Picks up needed energy on the finish. A bit brooding in feel, but there's ample depth of fruit and grip to wait this out. Best from 2019 through 2027.’ – James Molesworth, Wine Spectator, 91/100 (Mar 2017)
‘The Château Haut-Bergey 2014 is a blend of 65% Cabernet Sauvignon and 35% Merlot (though is pinch of Petit Verdot according Hélène Garçin-Léveque) raised in 30% new oak. It has a lot of ripeness on the nose, quite “full-on” in style and showing just a little sur-maturité. The palate is better, reining the opulence of the aromatics in with quite dense blackberry and raspberry fruit with commendable delineation on the finish. It just needs to contain that over-enthusiasm on the nose.’ – Neal Martin, Wine Advocate, (Apr 2015)
‘Barrel Sample. Tight, nervy and textured, this wine is still masking its fruit with upfront toast flavors. It does, however, have great richness at the end that promises good things to come.’ – Roger Voss, Wine Enthusiast, 92/100 (Mar 2015)
