About this Item

2012, 2013 Isliedh
4 (2 x 2) 750ml

Cape Point Vineyards is an award-winning wine estate nestled between the fynbos, vineyards and the Atlantic ocean in Noordhoek, Western Cape. On the white wine front, Wine Spectator seems to agree with Neal Martin that Cape Point Vineyards is the go-to address for top Sauvignon Blanc. Their serious Sauvignons are up there with the finest whites in the country, displaying focus, minerality, tension and depth.

Produced from vineyards established by Rosa Kruger, the Cape Point Vineyards Isliedh is sourced from south-facing vineyards situated high on the Cape Point peninsula overlooking Noordhoek. This harsh, marginal climate is prefect for the production of characterful wines and is responsible for one of SA’s finest white wines. A blend of Sauvignon Blanc and Sémillon, it is an age-worthy, multiple award-winning South African benchmark. For a wine of this quality and pedigree, it is incredible value.

Critics Ratings

2012:
‘Barrel-fermented, sauvignon-led blend with semillon, 2012 version of near-iconic flagship at minimum maintains the standard. Fruit & body easily embrace oak, delivering concentration, subtlety & length with delightful balance & texture. As with 2011 (4.5 stars), has a rewarding future.’ - Platter's SA Wine Guide 2014, 5*

‘The top white at Cape Point is made from Sauvignon Blanc with 25%) Semillon and is consistently one of South Africa’s greatest wines. It’s a tight, focused, nettly wine with smoky, restrained oak notes, hints of oyster shell and citrus peel and a saline, sea breeze quality. Drink: 2014-20’ - Tim Atkin MW, SA Special Report 2014, 96/100

‘Alluring, with tangerine, persimmon, straw and brioche notes aligned to a creamy frame. The long stony finish shows hints of heather and ginger. Drink now through 2015.’ – James Molesworth, Wine Spectator, 93/100 (April 2014)

‘The 2012 Isliedh is blended with 25% Semillon. There is a sense of fullness on the nose thanks to the Semillon: citrus fruit, waxy scents, touches of undergrowth developing in the glass. The palate is very well-balanced and packed full of crisp citrus fruit, lime and tangerine notes, a hint of spice and ginger toward the voluminous finish. This is superb – but to be honest, I was expecting it to be. Drink now-2018.’ – Neal Martin, Wine Advocate, 93/100 (Oct 2013)

2013:
‘Bright yellow-gold. Pungent minerality to the lemon oil aroma, along with sexy lavender lift. Seriously concentrated and tactile, conveying an impression of strong dry extract but a light touch to its mineral, menthol and lemon flavors. Finishes dry, brisk and very long, with impressive palate presence and a subtle note of white grapefruit, but with its terrific concentration it's not austere today. This, too, will be better for a year's patience. Superb. Duncan Savage consistent makes some of South Africa's most electric Sauvignon Blancs from extreme sites.’ – Stephen Tanzer, Vinous, 92/100 (Apr 2015)

‘Beguiling, aromatic blend sauvignon (82%) & semillon maintains enviable track record in ripe & layered 2013. Oak fermentation at its subtle best, offering spicy nuances, rich body & lingering finish. Like 2012 (5 stars) will improve for several years.’ - Platter's SA Wine Guide 2015, 4.5*

‘Racy, and skinnier than their Sauvignon Blanc Reserve. This vintage is lifted, steely, somewhat austere but very appetising.’ – Jancis Robinson MW, JancisRobinson.com, 17/20 (Sep 2014)
