About this Item
When one considers the long list of acclaim and reputation built from releasing top quality wines, vintage after vintage, from their restored 220 year old cellar on Paardebosch farm on the slopes of the Paardeberg in the Swartland, it's hard to imagine that David & Nadia Sadie established this brand as recent as 2010 only. The wines are characteristically fine and elegant, expressive of the places they come from. The focus lies on a spectrum of organic, old and dry land bush vine vineyards from different areas with different soil types throughout the Swartland, farmed by like-minded people. Considered one of the 'young guns' during the fine wine revolution of the Swartland, David's wines are now considered among the best in the region and beyond.
Plat’bos Chenin blanc, planted right next to the Skaliekop vineyard in decomposed granite. They have been farming this vineyard since winter 2013 and it has achieved organic certification with this vintage. A Certified Heritage Vineyards wine. ‘We never do any skin contact because the grapes are so concentrated.’ All old oak. 1,200 bottles produced.

‘Opening with a lively and aromatic nose, the 2018 Plat'bos Chenin Blanc is the lightest and most floral of the range, offering elements of dusty lemon drop, almond skin and a flutter of arugula tossed in Mandarin orange zest. Medium-bodied and with 13% alcohol, the wine is fresh and crisp on the palate with energetic acidity that never fully reaches the broader expressions of the other single-vineyard Chenin Blancs of the same range. However, this is just as delightful, showing a lively essence, balanced structure and mouthwatering mid-palate. The wine lingers on the finish with flavors of sweet citrus and a kiss of phenolic bitterness with growing spiciness. Nicely done.’ – Anthony Mueller, Wine Advocate, 92/100 (Feb 2021)
‘Very powerful nose with the soil speaking more loudly than the fruit. Full of personality. Easy to like! Great texture. Racy and relatively lean. No spare flesh. Quite attention-demanding. Very long. Lots of chew on the end but massive fruit before then. Round and friendly. Saline note on the end too.’ – Jancis Robinson MW, JancisRobinson.com, 17.5/20 (Jul 2019)
‘Plat'bos is the third single vineyard Chenin from the Sadies, added to the range for the first time in 2018. Planted on granite soils in 1981, this is also a component in the regular David & Nadia cuvée. Rich and concentrated, yet balanced by stony intensity, some aniseed spice and mouth-watering acidity and palate length. 2021-28’ - Tim Atkin MW, SA Special Report 2019, 95/100
