About this Item
Franco Lourens produces excellent wines under his own label, Lourens Family Wines. Previously assistant winemaker to Chris Alheit at Alheit Vineyards, he still has Chris, one of SA's most gifted winemakers, as his daily mentor and inspiration. His wines are already highly acclaimed and he is definitely one of the most talented young winemakers in SA today.
Named after the wife of the winemaker, Schalk-Willem Joubert, the wine is made up of 50% Chenin Blanc, 42% Verdelho and 8% Grenache Blanc.

Critics Ratings
‘Subtle & nuanced 2019 blend opens up to textured layers of flavour - stonefruit & citrus with pithy, peely notes & creamy richness from older oak. Grows in the glass, plenty to come here. Stellenbosch & Swartland chenin plus verdelho (SA’s oldest), 8% skin-contact grenache blanc.’ - Platter's SA Wine Guide 2021, 4.5* (94/100)
‘The 2019 White Blend Lindi Carien, pure Grenache Blanc with a 5-day skin contact, has a well-defined bouquet of white chocolate and shaved almond scents filtering through the citrus fruit. The palate is taut and focused with tangy marmalade notes on the entry. Good depth, fine acidity and a slightly honeyed texture on the finish. There is a lot going on in this Chardonnay and it’s all good.’ – Neal Martin, Vinous, 93/100 (Apr 2021)
‘Pretty and enticing aromatics of pear, peach, citrus plus hints of potpourri and dried herbs and a little flinty reduction while the palate has a dense core of fruit and comes across as entirely seamless. This is establishing itself as one of the best Cape White Blends around.’ - Christian Eedes, Winemag.co.za, 95/100 (Oct 2020)
‘Franco Lourens dropped the Roussanne from this blend of Chenin Blanc with 42% Verdelho and 8% Grenache Blanc in 2019 and this stunning wine is tighter and more focused as a result. Pithy, stony and oatmealy with fine lees, citrus and wet stone flavours and chiselled, mouth-watering acidity. A masterful white blend. 2021-27’ - Tim Atkin MW, SA Special Report 2020, 95/100
