About this Item
Eben Sadie is South Africa’s most revered winemaker and he arguably kick-started the local fine wine revolution. Over two decades his pursuit for quality in the Swartland has been unparalleled in South Africa and he was voted Winemaker of the Year in 2017 by the International Master of Wine Institute. Eben’s wines were influenced by the Rhône and Spain, with traditional local varieties sourced from pockets of old bush vines and unique terroirs. Long-ageing Columella is often regarded as South Africa’s best red, while Palladius similarly offers an incredible Swartland expression and decades of longevity. The old vine single vineyard series, which was first released in the 2009 vintage, is now firmly the most sought-after release of the year. Mev Kirsten is South Africa’s rarest white wine, produced from a century old Stellenbosch vineyard, while the now legendary Skurfberg received 100 points from Tim Atkin in 2020.
The tiny production of his Old Vine Series makes them South Africa’s most sought-after wines. The 2015 Old Vine Series T'Voetpad is a field blend of grape varieties, including Sémillon Blanc, Sémillon Gris, Chenin Blanc, Palomino and Muscat. The vineyard was first planted on the Piketberg Mountains in 1887, making it one of South Africa's oldest vineyards. Extremely rare and only offered to the market in limited 3-bottle allocations.

'A blend of Semillon Blanc, Semillon Gris, Chenin Blanc, Palomino and Muscat, the 2015 Old Vine Series T Voetpad has a strict, linear bouquet that needed the most encouragement from the glass out of all Eben's 2015s. The palate is beautifully balanced and packed full of flavor: orange rind, bitter lemon, sea salt, lanolin and a touch of hazelnut, fanning out beautifully towards the finish that demonstrates superb vigor. This is a blistering follow-up to the 2014 and two minutes after the wine has departed, you can still feel the mouth tingling with salinity.' – Neal Martin, Wine Advocate, 97/100 (Apr 2017)
'Field blend from one of SA’s oldest vineyards. Near-equal chenin, semillon & palomino with 6% muscat produce generous, expressive & remarkably textured 2015. Like 2014 (5 stars, 98 pts), rich, with complex flavours focused by precise acidity & attractive pithiness. Year well-seasoned foudre.' - Platter's SA Wine Guide 2017, 4.5*
'A Swartland field blend of Chenin Blanc, Muscat, Palomino, Semillon and Semillon Gris, planted in stages from 1900 to 1928. The 2015 has a captivating nose of pear, peach and citrus plus dried herbs and a certain talcum-powder-like quality. The palate is quite beautiful – pure, fresh and textured. Nothing exaggerated about it, while the finish is extraordinarily long. It’s both immediately appealing and entirely intellectually satisfying. Pretty close to complete.' - Christian Eedes, Winemag.co.za, 96/100 (Aug 2016)
