About this Item
The Foundry Wine Collection was established on a shoestring budget in 2001 by Chris Williams and his great friend James Reid. The brand has gained numerous accolades and awards since 2001. The wines are site specific, terroir defined wines, with the aim of producing wines that both Chris and James enjoy drinking.
The grapes are sourced from a vineyard next to The Foundry’s home farm in Voor Paardeberg and managed by Chris Williams. Grown on Malmesbury shale and decomposed granite, these trellised vines allow them to precisely manage the canopy to enhance fruit, complexity and balance.

‘Since 2009 from Voor Paardeberg fruit, a SA benchmark. Delicate 2015 our White Wine of the Year. Subtle lemon cream, green pineapple aromas & a soupçon of spice. Seamless, bright & pure, with a rounded mouthfeel thanks to judicious oaking (7 months, older French). Refined, mineral 2014 (4.5 stars, 94 pts) had 5% roussanne.’ – Platter’s SA Wine Guide 2018, 5* (99/100)
'Toasty lemon peel and spiced orange rind set up a spicy, citrusy welcome on the nose of this wine. At the core are rich notes of lemon custard, pear flesh and melon, all cut by superb acidity and a fresh, steely minerality. It's driven and focused, with clear precision on the palate and a medium-length finish that evolves from fruit flesh to rind and finally a kiss of earthy spice. Drink now–2022.' - Lauren Buzzeo, Wine Enthusiast, 91/100 (Apr 2018)
'Inviting combination of stony minerality and ripe pear fruit. Creamy, rich and delicious, with moderate length.' - Julia Harding MW, JancisRobinson.com, 16.5/20 (Oct 2017)
‘W.O. Voor Paardeberg. Fermented and matured for seven months in older French oak barrels. Yellow apple, stone fruit and green melon plus some leesy complexity on the nose. The palate appears sweet-fruited and quite plump (RS is 5.1g/l) though there’s also fresh acidity lending verve – impossible not to like.’ – Christian Eedes, Winemag.co.za, 91/100
