About the SessionThe Cape Heritage Red Wine Session features 25 lots from The Tabernacle – the famous underground cellar in Stellenbosch that houses some of South Africa’s most spectacular vinous historical treasures. All the lots from The Tabernacle have been recorked; each bottle was opened for inspection, under the protection of an argon gas blanket, and Strauss & Co fine wine specialist Higgo Jacobs along with Amorim tasted and assessed each wine. The wines were topped up with wine from the same vintage, recorked and resealed, all under the supervision of a technical team from Amorim Corks.

About this Item
With its history dating back to 1692, Lanzerac Wine Estate is one of South Africa’s most famous properties. Their signature ‘ten-pin’ shaped bottle from the 60s and 70s is unique and the wines within have stood the test of time. Lanzerac produced the first commercial Pinotage in the world with the 1959.
This wine has been checked and re-corked by Amorim cork under supervision of auction curator Higgo Jacobs, assuring provenance, quality and long life. Seal code Mr-051699, th-989405 can be traced on Amorim Recorking Directory

'Deep red colour and tinge of brown. There is ripe red fruit of raspberry and strawberry on the nose and some lovely toffee, mocha and spice and the typical sweetness from older Pinotage’s. The palate displays a wonderful rich and silky-smooth taste. Combined by the intensity of fruit, tannin and acidity that has preserved this wine so beautifully. 'A real treat to try this old Pinotage: it is about as old as Pinotage gets, because the first varietally labelled example was this wine in 1961. Old and a bit earthy, with notes of spice and herbs.
