About this Item
At more than 3,200 feet above sea level within the magical Cederberg Wilderness Area, Cederberg Private Cellar is South Africa’s highest vineyard. The Nieuwoudt family have been farming in the Cederberg mountain for five generations, with vines planted as early as 1973, but the brand has been energetically driven to become one of SA wine's real success stories by David Nieuwoudt, now at the helm. Thanks to the isolation of the vineyards and the extreme winters, the vineyards are largely virus and disease free. David has single handedly established an enviable terroir identity for the Cederberg, while simultaneously building other successful, pioneering wine ventures, notably Ghost Corner in the region of Elim.

Paying homage to 5 generations of farming in this unique place, the 2015 Five Generations Chenin was a Decanter World Wine Awards Gold medal and Standard Bank Top 10 Challenge 2017 winner.

Critics Ratings
'In contrast to its chenin sibling, 2015 is barrel fermented/aged (third new) & has 10% viognier: the aim is flavour concentration, to stand proud as the white flagship. Toasty seam in the citrus & melon flavours, zesty, vibrant, powerful.' - Platter’s SA Wine Guide 2018, 4.5* (94/100)
'Green-tinged mid straw. Concentrated fruit compote aromas, dry, nutty with hints of baked bread. Fresh and savoury on the palate. Apricot tangyness, edged with lime on the finish.' - Michael Fridjhon, Winewizard.co.za, 92/100 (Mar 2018)
'Five Generations comes from a small plot replanted in 2008 on the site of a vineyard that dates back to the 1970s. Ripe, textured and exotic, with 8% Viognier adding an apricotty note, this has the wildness of natural fermentation, some baking spices and beautifully integrated oak. Drink 2017-21' - Tim Atkin SA Wine Report 2017, 94/100
