About this Item
Kaapzicht is a 4th generation family-owned wine estate, located in Stellenbosch. The name Kaapzicht means ‘Cape view’ and is attributed to the beautiful views of Table Mountain and Cape Town which are seen from the farm. The Steytler family has farmed the land since 1946 and today, brothers Danie and George own the 190-hectare estate. Located on the Bottelary hill, the farm experiences a mild climate with cool sea breezes and consists of old, weathered granite soils.

Kaapzicht The 1947 Chenin Blanc 2016
Kaapzicht The 1952 Cinsault 2016
Having been under the Steytler family’s care for 3 generations, Kaapzicht is a hallmark of the Bottelary Hills, producing wine since 1984. Danie Steytler Jnr took over the reins from father Danie in 2009, and with the emphatic introduction of this single vineyard Chenin in 2013, earning a Platter 5* on release, cemented his intentions to build on the family brand and grow the quality offering. Named 1947 after the planting date of the vineyard (planted by Danie’s great grandfather), thought to be SA’s 2nd oldest block of Chenin, the wine was introduced to mark 30 years of bottling under the Kaapzicht label. Super small production and sold out on release, the older vintages are rare finds.
Such is the modesty of the Steytlers that not much was made of The 1947 Chenin Blanc 2016, being named Decanter Magazine's most exciting wine of 2017 under £55 - worldwide - this is no mean feat!
Kaapzicht The 1952 Cinsault wine was made by Danie Steytler Jnr of Kaapzicht using grapes sourced from a 1952 block, planted on Bellevue and the second oldest in Stellenbosch– former Bellevue owner Dirke Morkel and Steytler’s father Danie Snr lifelong friends and this a tribute to them.

Kaapzicht The 1952 Cinsault 2016
‘This wine was made by Danie using grapes sourced from a 1952 block planted on Bellevue. One ton with 30% whole bunch in two 500 litre barrels for fermentation. A much more fragrant, lifted perfumed nose with sweet cherry, sun dried cranberry, rose petals and Turkish delight. Very pretty and deliciously complex with a tantalising sappy, stalk spice character. Palate speaks confidently but softly and is beautifully nuanced, vibrant and premium in feel. The palate has a certain plumpness about it despite a modest alcohol of 12.5% – pure and fresh with some pleasant tannic grip on the finish.
