About this Item

2015 Granite Chenin Blanc
6 (1 x 6) 750ml

Grapes for the Granite Chenin were sourced from a parcel of sustainably, dry-farmed 43 year old parcel of sustainably and dry farmed bush vines planted in the decomposed Granite soils of the Paardeberg. These very deep decomposed Granite soils tend to produce wines with great acidity and a flinty, stony aromatic profile.

Critics Ratings

'A stunning wine, this opens with scents of golden straw, honeydew rind, firm nectarine and fresh honeycomb that all carry through to the medium-weight mouth. The palate boasts a flinty, mineral texture and bright acidity that lends verve and precision to the notes of toasted apple, spiced orange rind and pressed yellow flowers. Hints of fresh herbs and minty fynbos grace the enduring finish. It sure is delicious now, but try this stunner from 2020–2028.' - Lauren Buzzeo, Wine Enthusiast, 93/100 (Apr 2018)

'From granite soils on Perdeberg, 2015 has quiet assurance, purity & elegance. Layered & complex, textural, it’s how it manages to combine fruit - pear & quince - with minerality, even thatch, that impresses. Take your time, it has lots to give.' - Platter's SA Wine Guide 2017, 4.5*

'The 2015 Granite Chenin has a lovely bouquet: nectarine, yellow flowers, pink grapefruit and a touch of beeswax. This has much more delineation and energy compared to the 2015 White Blend. The palate is fresh and vibrant on the entry with crisp acidity, slightly waxy in texture with hints of brioche, litchi nuts, smoke and nutmeg, fanning out with a sense of confidence towards the finish. This is a sterling follow-up to the 2014 Granite Chenin, though I would be inclined to age it a couple of years in bottle.' - Robert Parker, Wine Advocate, 92/100 (Apr 2017)

'Intense, sculpted nose. Edgy with honey and richness but finishes absolutely dry with a sucky-stony element – light granite influence? Not cheap though....' - Jancis Robinson MW, JancisRobinson.com, 16.5/20 (Oct 2017)

'Even better than last year’s maiden release, this comes from two sites in the Swartland and is fermented in larger, neutral oak. It’s a deliciously poised expression of Chenin with steely acidity, stony minerality and flavours of quince, apple and baking spices. Brilliant winemaking. Drink: 2016-22.' - Tim Atkin MW, SA Special Report 2016, 94/100
