‘Good medium-dark red with ruby highlights. Reticent nose hints at fruitcake and woodsmoke. Then dense, plush and deep in the mouth, with wonderfully pliant flavors of red berries and spicecake complicated by saline and woodsmoke elements. And yet this pinotage conveys the impression of a very young wine. Really saturates the mouth with flavor on the long finish, which features very smooth, fine-grained tannins. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins, subtle touches of orange peel and quince and well-judged acidity. This is a beautifully composed Pinotage that seems to handle that new oak with ease. This is right on the money - one of South Africa's premier Pinotage wines that would make a few cynics re-think their views on the variety.
