About this Item

2009 Échézeaux
1 (1 x 1) 750ml

Domaine du Comte Liger-Belair was established in 2000. While it is a relatively new domaine in Burgundy, the Liger-Belair family has owned vineyards in Vosne-Romanée since 1815. They produce a range of Grand and Premier Cru wines from vineyards in Nuits-Saint-Georges and Vosne-Romanée, with the tiny monopole of La Romanée providing their flagship wine. The Comte Liger-Belair wines are highly sought-after, despite the domaine's youth and the La Romanée monopole is regularly among the most expensive wines produced in Burgundy. Comte Liger-Belair's mostly Pinot Noir-based wines are farmed using biodynamic principles and the vineyards are still plowed by horse.

Critics Ratings

‘The 2009 Echézeaux Grand Cru has a delightful bouquet even if it has to shrug off a little reduction. There are plush red cherry and raspberry fruit, rose petals and candied orange peel scents. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin, fine acidity, quite tannic and almost like a 2010 in style than 2009. It does not quite deliver the sustain on the finish but it should age nicely over the next 15 to 20 years.’ – Neal Martin, Wine Advocate, 93/100 (Jul 2015)

‘The 2009 Echézeaux is all about understated elegance. There is plenty of energy in the glass, but the 2009 is quite minimalistic at this stage. Today the wine is compact and closed in on itself, which is not at all a bad thing for readers rightly planning to let the wine develop in bottle. I very much like the focus and sheer power of the finish.’ – Antonio Galloni, Vinous, 95/100 (Apr 2012)

‘An exuberantly spicy and very ripe black fruit and cassis nose that remains admirably and attractively fresh merges into textured, supple and utterly delicious flavors brimming with ample amounts of dry extract that add to the seductive mouth feel on the strikingly complex and marvelously long finish. This is a terrific example of the appellation and will drink well young yet be fully capable of improving for at least 15 years.’ - Allen Meadows, Burghound.com, 94/100 (Jan 2012)

‘Bright cherry red. Strong cherry nose – more obviously fruity than the Reignots. Smooth and beguiling. Good cherry fruit and well-mannered palate entry and balance but just a little lacking refreshment value. Dried cherries.’ – Jancis Robinson MW, JancisRobinson.com, 17/20 (Jan 2011)
