About this Item
Kistler Vineyards is a wine producer in northern California's Sonoma County. Its considerable reputation is thanks largely to its robust, buttery Chardonnay wines, which have established Kistler as a cult winery since the 1980s. The company was founded in 1978 by Steve Kistler and remains a family-owned and operated winery. It is a relatively small producer, making just 35,000 cases annually, much of which is sold through its significant mailing list.
Kistler's focus is the Burgundy varieties, making 10 vineyard-designated Chardonnay wines and four designated Pinot Noir wines. The fruit comes from three AVAs within Sonoma: Sonoma Coast, Sonoma Mountain and Carneros.
This lot consists of the following wines:
Kistler Dutton Ranch Chardonnay 1993 (1 x 750ml)
Kistler Dutton Ranch Chardonnay 1998 (3 x 750ml)

Critics Ratings
Kistler Dutton Ranch Chardonnay 1993:
'Kistler's 1993s possess even more texture, richness, and concentration than the 1992s. The 1993 Chardonnay Dutton Ranch offers a more roasted, hazelnut, honeyed ripeness, great concentration, full body, and a character not unlike a hypothetical blend of Batard-Montrachets from the two stellar Burgundian producers, Niellon and Ramonet. This rich wine should age and improve for another 4-5 years.' - Robert Parker, Wine Advocate, 94/100 (Oct 1995)
'Smooth-textured, elegant and understated, with a nice core of citrus, pear and cream. The flavors linger on the finish, picking up hints of hazelnut and honey.' - Wine Spectator (Jun 1996)
Kistler Dutton Ranch Chardonnay 1998:
'A plump, rich and creamy style, with ripe fig, hazelnut and buttery flavors, and pretty glimpses of anise, pear and tangerine. Drink now through 2005.' - James Laube, Wine Spectator, 92/100 (Jul 2001)
'Musky aromas of apricot and green apple, plus a cyanic hint of apple pit. Intensely flavored but tightly wound, with flavors of apple, minerals, and spice brightened by firm acids. Pour this somewhat unforthcoming wine into a decanter if you plan to serve it now. Finishes long, ripe and firm.' - Stephen Tanzer, Vinous, 92+/100 (May 2001)
'The 1998 Chardonnay Dutton Ranch is smoky, with copious quantities of exotic tropical fruits jumping from the glass. Pineapple, mango, and passion fruits immediately come to mind when tasting this full-bodied, lusty, in-your-face Chardonnay that should drink well for 4-5 years.' - Robert Parker, Wine Advocate, 90-92/100 (Jan 2000)
