About this Item

1997 Merlot
1 (1 x 1) 750ml

Seavey Vineyard is a wine producer based in St Helena, in California's Napa Valley. The estate is most recognized for its portfolio of Cabernet Sauvignon wines, but it is also known for its small selection of varietal wines made from Chardonnay and Merlot.

The estate dates back to the late 1800s, when it was founded by Charles Volper and Georges Crochat. The estate's 158 hectares of vineyards were abandoned upon their deaths in 1892, and converted into ranch land. In 1979, the vineyards were revived with the arrival of William and Mary Seavey. After converting the original stone dairy to a winery in 1989, the Seavey Vineyard estate released its inaugural vintages of Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay the following year.

Critics Ratings

'Rich and full-bodied, with ripe and chunky earthy currant and berry, finishing with firm tannins and a cedary oak edge. Drink now through 2005.' - James Laube, Wine Spectator (Jun 2000)

'There are 300 cases of the 1997 Merlot, an intense, full-bodied, gorgeously pure, 100% Merlot that saw 40% new French oak. It reveals the tell-tale espresso bean, chocolatey, sweet, jammy berry fruit, an unctuous, thick texture, full body, and excellent purity and length. It is a gorgeous Merlot to drink now and over the next 12-15 years' - Robert Parker, Wine Advocate, 90/100 (Jan 2000)
