Located behind the old fishing village of Hermanus, is one of the most southerly wine Estates in Africa, Hamilton Russell. The estate was purchased in 1975 by Tim Hamilton Russell and in 1991 his son, Anthony Hamilton Russell, took over and immediately narrowed their range down to only Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. This proved to be a masterstroke and made the Hemel-en-Aarde valley notorious for producing the best Pinot Noir and Chardonnay in South Africa and a recognised expression outside of Burgundy.

The 2018 Hamilton Russell Vineyards Chardonnay is a distinguished wine from the Hemel-en-Aarde Valley in South Africa. Hamilton Russell is renowned for producing exceptional Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, often compared to those from Burgundy due to their elegance, balance, and expression of terroir.

‘The crop was tiny in 2018 - half of the normal yield, according to Emul Ross - but the quality and style of this celebrated Chardonnay is as good as ever. Fermented in amphorae and 29% new oak barrels, with 40% malolactic, it's elegant, savoury and oatmealy.
