About this Item
Paul Cluver estate reflects the uniqueness of the cool-climate Elgin terroir. Established in 1896, Dr Paul Cluver IV pioneered the Elgin wine region and today it is a family affair. Andries Burger is married to Paul’s daughter and has been winemaker for two decades.
The 2015 Seven Flags Pinot Noir is made up of 2 specific vineyards, one of the oldest Pinot Noir vineyards, planted to clone 113 in 1990, as well a small percentage of 115 clone from the highest lying and coolest Pinot Noir planted in 2002. It is the ultimate expression of the estate’s terroir - the culmination of dedication to the practice of viticulture and wine making.
Critics Ratings
‘Best-barrels selection for this flagship label, same time in oak as siblings but more new oak (20%); 2015 dark cherry, chocolate & allspice perfume, a silky palate flavoured with berries, enlivening mineral seam. Refined & seamless.’ - Platter's SA Wine Guide 2018, 4.5* (93/100)
‘The 2015 Seven Flags Pinot Noir is completely de-stemmed with no crushing, matured in barrel on the fine lees for 11 months. It has an elegant and what you might call "transparent" bouquet with perfumed red cherries, crushed strawberry and rose petal scents. The oak here is neatly integrated (20% new). The palate offers crunchy red berry fruit on the entry: cranberry and pomegranate laced with spice, nicely structured on the second half with a saline finish that lingers long in the mouth. This is excellent.’ – Neal Martin, Wine Advocate, 92/100 (Apr 2017)
