"Through his art, Patrick Bongoy takes a closer look at the survival mechanisms that human beings utilise amidst social and industrial problems, specifically the devastation prevalent in his war-ravaged hometown, Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). The societal change and deprivation he has witnessed are his primary inspiration. He believes that art can comfort and offer an alternative reality. He uses unconventional materials like jute, stitching, and tar and through the recovery of waste materials such as inner tyre tubes, industrial packaging and textiles, he repurposes and reinterprets what others discard."¹
