About this Item
Groot Constantia VSOP Brandy 2010
Nestled in the fertile Constantia Valley lies South Africa's oldest wine-producing farm - Groot Constantia, founded in 1685. It is here that we believe time should be taken to first understand and then consume our award-winning wines.
Cape Brandy was first distilled at Groot Constantia as early as 1734. This 5 year old postill brandy is a tribute to the history and tradition of winemaking and distillation at Groot Constantia. From our cellars Napoleon, Frederick the Great of Prussia and Louis Philippe (King of the French) were supplied.
The first of our modern-day brandies, produced from Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon grapes grown at Groot Constantia. The wine was distilled in a traditional potstill kettle and matured in small 225L oak barrels before careful blending and bottling.
The nose shows dried pear and apricots, followed by cinnamon, nutmeg and caramel. The dried fruit follows on the palate, while the five years wood maturation adds vanilla and almond flavours to the palate.
