About this Item
La Bri - Merlot & Affinity 2017 (2 x 1.5L)
Two magnums from one of the best vintages at La Bri. One of each of the La Merlot 2017 and the La Bri Affinity 2017.
Bosman - Nero d’Avola 2019 (1 x 1.5L)
100% Nero d’Avola. The grapes were hand-picked, hand-sorted, destemmed and lightly crushed. Then the juice was allowed to cold macerate on the grape skins for two days prior to fermentation. After the onset thereof, regular punch downs were applied for maximum colour extraction. The wine spent three weeks on the skins before being pressed. Barrel maturation lasted for 18 months in a combination of 20% new French oak as well as 2nd and 3rd fill barrels. The barrels were meticulously selected for this vintage. After blending the selected barrels, the wine was allowed to mature for a few months to ensure a balanced, well-rounded result.
Bosman - Twyfeling Cinsaut 2019 (1 x 1.5L)
Cinsaut 100%. This is our humble (and modern) take on what a Wellington bush vine Cinsaut could look like. The winemaker prepares a ‘pied de cuve’ to initiate natural fermentation. This ensures spontaneous fermentation of the grapes harvested a few days later. The vineyard is then hand-harvested in three components, picked days apart. The grapes were hand-sorted, de-stemmed and slightly crushed. Spontaneous fermentation is facilitated by daily pump-overs. A total of 5% of the wine is fermented as a whole bunch component to add freshness and complexity. Matured in a 225L, second and third fill French oak barrels.
Bosman Optenhorst Chenin Blanc The winemaker prepares a ‘pied de cuve’ to initiate natural fermentation. This ensures spontaneous fermentation of the grapes harvested a few days later. The natural yeasts enhance the unique flavours of the grapes from that site and sensitive vinification, with thoughtful but minimal intervention, allows for the best and truest expression of this unique Old Vine vineyard. Whole-bunch pressed, settled overnight and the clear juice drawn off in the morning. Spontaneous fermentation occurred in both a concrete tank and older French oak barrels. The wine matured on the yeast lees for 8 months, to build mouthfeel whilst retaining freshness.
Bosman - Optenhorst Chenin Blanc 2017 (1 x 750ml)
Chenin Blanc 100%. Traditionally the grapes from the Optenhorst Chenin Blanc vineyard were harvested and vinified along with all the other Chenin grown on the farm. In 2007, with the renovation of the 270-year-old cellar, we could vinify this very old vineyard separately and we were astounded by the unique character and rich complexity produced from this site. Since then, the Optenhorst Chenin Blanc has made a name for itself as a single site wine. Planted in 1952 as a massal selection, it is the third oldest Chenin vineyard in the country, and a certified Old Vine (OVP) wine.
