About this Item
A pair of Chinese blue and white porcelain plates painted with a mountain landscape scene, 19th century
Notes
The plate is decorated in underglaze blue with an animated mountainous river landscape featuring bridges, pavilions and winding paths. Landscape scenes of this type were popular on export wares and reflect the Chinese ideal of harmony between human structures and nature. The central scene is framed by simple scrollwork borders typical of export porcelain intended for Western markets.
Provenance
Private Collection.
