About this Item

Pessac-Léognan 2007
1 (1 x 1) 750ml
The 2007 Left Bank vintage was demanding, rewarding only estates with fastidious selection and producing wines of elegant medium body rather than brute concentration. Domaine de Chevalier was unanimously acknowledged as one of the outstanding performers of the year, earning 91/100 from Robert Parker, who called it one of the vintage’s top successes, and 93/100 from Neal Martin, who tasted it a decade on and found it at its perfect drinking window yet with the substance to age further still. The wine’s characteristic warm gravel and mineral signature, the hallmark of this pine-encircled estate in Léognan under Olivier Bernard’s meticulous direction, makes this a textbook expression of the estate at its finest. The blend is 63% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot with Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, aged in French oak.

Provenance

The late David Brice was a respected wine connoisseur, collector and co-founder of Brice and Burnett – The Fine Wine Specialists (formerly Wine Cellar). His lifelong passion for wine from all corners of the world wine, and generosity, helped develop a culture of fine wine in South Africa and beyond. Always with value and authenticity in mind, the collection spans a wide range of styles from leading producers and diverse regions. The wines were professionally imported under refrigeration and carefully stored at Brice and Burnett (formerly Wine Cellar) thereafter. Many of the producers are not available in South Africa and provide an excellent buying opportunity.

David studied and tasted Bordeaux more than any other region and he purchased en-primeur, or pre-release, for more than 3 decades. He bought the great vintages, loved magnums, and enjoyed the sweet wines of Sauternes. The cellar contains the famous names, but also highly regarded but lesser-known Chateaux and appellations.

For more detailed information on the lots, please feel free to contact Roland Peens (roland@winecellar.co.za). Roland spent many years sharing and enjoying these wines with David Brice and is happy to provide further insight into the collection.

Critics Ratings

“One of the vintage’s top successes, exhibiting a juicy black currant, forest floor and soil-scented nose. Layered with brilliant precision, purity and density, it is a medium to full-bodied, elegant and intensely flavoured wine.” - Robert Parker, Wine Advocate, 91/100 (Apr 2010)

“A very refined bouquet with scents of warm gravel and black olives permeating the dark berry fruit, all very well defined and focused. Medium-bodied with fine tannin, very fresh and generous with superb mineralité and tension towards the tertiary finish. What a lovely Domaine de Chevalier - à point - but with the substance to suggest it will not go downhill in any hurry.” - Neal Martin, Wine Advocate, 93/100 (Jun 2017)
