About this Item
Founded in 1682, Rustenberg Estate on the Simonsberg foothills is one of the most historic and picturesque farms in South Africa. The farm was previously split into two estates, until 1945 when industrialist Peter Barlow purchased both farms and reunited them. Rustenberg is family-owned with son of Peter Barlow, Simon, owning the estate and grandson, Murray (2 x Diners Club Young Winemaker of the Year) now cellar master.
In 1945 the farm was purchased by industrialist Peter Barlow and, today, is owned by his son Simon and grandson Murray. This site-specific Cabernet Sauvignon comes from the oldest vineyard on the estate, high up on the Simonsberg. It is truly one of South Africa’s best Cabernet Sauvignons and has the track record to age for decades. The 2009 was been hailed as the best of the decade and is powerfully built. It has picked up multiple 90+ ratings and awards, including International Judges’ Trophy and Gold Medal at the Old Mutual Wine Show. It was also the top-rated red wine in this year’s 10-year-old Winemag.co.za report.
