About this Item
Granted as a grazing farm to Jan Oberholzer in 1712 before being acquired by Hans Von Carlowitz in 1929, Uitkyk is situated in Klapmuts in the Cape Winelands. The Carlonet is what Uitkyk is renowned for and it is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Cinsaut. The name Carlonet is a combination of the first winemakers name Carlo and the Net coming from the net at the Cabernet.
The terroir of Uitkyk on the slopes of Simonsberg produced incredible reds from the 70s and 80s. The Carlonet was in fact one of the finest South African wines at the time, a Cabernet Sauvignon of great richness and power. These bottles have been recorked and the 1978 is in excellent condition for continued aging.

'Lots of bright red fruit, peppery spice and mint. Lifted by fine tannins and lively acidity, this is a youthful and delicate wine of true elegance and persistence.’ Higgo Jacobs, 95 points
